After you have relaxed into Scone Cottage its time to take a stroll and stretch those legs. Walking to Ardfern is a great way of getting going, a walk with great views, a cafe and a pub.

Stage 1 Begin the walk by heading out from Scone Cottage up to the "main" road 100yds away. Turn right taking the for Lunga Estate.

Stage 2

At the next fork, keep left - still signed for Lunga Estate. A break in the trees gives some good views to the right towards Loch Melfort and beyond.

Stage 3

Keep left when some houses are reached, then keep straight ahead uphill ignoring a branch down to the right. Keep straight ahead on the main track - with views to Lunga House just off to the right. This was originally a 16th century Tower House and is now used for private functions. Pass between the green outbuildings and stay on the main track as it curves left at a junction, then right at a fork. Further on still stay on the main track ignoring the climbing branch to the right.

Stage 4

The track is fringed with broadleaved trees, and most of the enclosing conifers have been felled as it leads over an indistinct pass. Keep slightly right on the main track to eventually descend to a few houses. Here a tarmac road is reached by some bins.

Stage 5

Bear right on the tarmac road, climbing slightly before the final descent to Ardfern village on the southern coast of the Craignish peninsula. The village has a large yacht centre and a beautiful setting.

Stage 6

The main road is reached beside the school; if you wish to visit the Galley of Lorne Inn or Lucy's cafe, both are a short distance to the right; the village shop is a short distance to the left. Once you have enjoyed your visit to Ardfern, the return walk to Craobh Haven is back the same way.
